Excited About Curriculum

Alright so I know I have been slacking in the whole blogging department:( I can say that as I look on this past year of teaching my son that it was not all peachy. We banged heads, misunderstood each and even got upset. However, I can say that it has help to put this next year in perspective. I have found out about myelf, that I get overwhelmed with all the info, curriculum, websites, etc....it just gets crazy which makes me crazy and when I get overwhelmed I handle things poorly. So  I decided to finally sit down and pick a curriculum to use, with the encouragement of our Aunt:) That is what I did; went with A Beka. I went with them because they eliminate all that I have to try to do, such as, lesson plans, creative ideas to keep kids interested. This is what makes me excited. I get my cake and eat to!! I have just realized this about myself and the cause of what gets me overwhelmed: making up LESSON PLANS!!! and staying organized enough to stay focused on an area. So on the 7th of this month my books for JD and me will be hear and I am so excited!!! I will be repeated Kindergarten, for the simple reason that this year seemed more of introduction and seeing where he was at emotionally and mentally. We are also going to be taking advantage of the screening test at the school so I can also see how he is doing. So there you go, I guess it was quite the update...hahahaha!

Happy Fourth Of July!!!

Adventures in Homeschooling: Counting

Adventures in Homeschooling: Counting: "Well for starters, John is able to count 100 with a little help, he can also write up to 100 and I didn't even show him how! *yes i am boast..."

Counting

Well for starters, John is able to count 100 with a little help, he can also write up to 100 and I didn't even show him how! *yes i am boasting right now* Then to top it off he is now counting by tens and knows the days of the week! He is constantly surprising me with how quickly he is picking up on things. He just learned counting by tens today and that was because of Leap Frog Math to the Moon video on Netflix. They sing it *my mom is right put it to music you learn anything*! He is now 6 yrs old and growing so quickly it is amazing every day to see his changes. I so blessed to have this opportunity to teach my son. I praise the Lord every day for the gift that I have been given. Have a wonderful weekend!

Reading, Writing, Arithmatic!

This is my focus...I have just started to introduce addition to our counting, as of right now he counts to 50, can spell(if he takes his time and listens to the sounds) which he does excellent, and he is picking up on reading very well!! I think that since we read together all the time and he enjoys "reading" back to me he is a very willing participant. We are using Hooked on Phonics and that I believe is helping him tremendously! Now I just have to get him to slow down when he is talking and speak up so we can hear him and understand..lol! Here is his beautiful handiwork in motion! His writing has improved tremendously! He is also getting his Bb's and Dd's right too! YAY! Today we are doing a science project of making our own Home-made Geodes, I think he will enjoy this:) Anyway posts pics later of the project!

Catch up!

Okay this one is to bring everyone up to date! As of right now I am focusing on JD's writing of the alphabet and counting to 50! Also a new program added to the mix is Hooked on phonics reading Level 1 in Kindergarten...which he is grasping quite nicely:) However my biggest proud moment is yesterday we did a review on writing the letters Aa through Dd I decided to test him on sounding out and spelling what he hears, the 2 words were bad and cab, HE DID AWESOME!!! He was able to sound out and figure out the letters making those sounds and wrote his first 2 SPELLING WORDS!!!!!! I know I am bias but this is a huge thing for me and him and US as a family! Also at night after I read him a story he wants to read it back to me. He blesses me more than he could even image and I am so happy that he WANTS to read. He still might not like to COLOR but he is getting a LOVE for reading and that is okay with me. Sorry I have been slacking with posting on here, but there is my updat:) Have a great weekend! XO
