Yes he is old enough to read, he is old enough to have a list. I figured this way he can check off his progresss as he goes. Hopefully I won't have to hover to make sure it gets done :-)

You'll probably have to hover a little bit, at least early on, but eventually, he may come to enjoy checking things off. It will give him a sense of accomplishment.
